A bar sitting in a puddle becomes messy long before it is used up. The first storage question is therefore not which dish matches the bathroom, but where the water goes after the bar is put down.
Choose a holder that lets the bar drain and can itself be cleaned. A tray with grooves may work if water does not collect beneath them. A slatted holder can help with airflow, but check the material's care instructions and whether it stays stable on the surface.
Keep the dish out of the direct shower spray when possible. A well-designed holder cannot do much if the bar is continuously soaked. At a sink, leave space between the dish and the faucet's usual splash area.
Pick up the bar and holder periodically to remove residue according to the materials involved. A dish that is difficult to disassemble or has narrow decorative crevices may require more effort than you want. The simplest shape often works well because you can see what needs cleaning.
If several people use the space, make the arrangement clear. A facial cleansing bar and a household handwashing bar may have different intended uses. Keep packaging information available so nobody has to guess from color or scent.
Do not press partly used bars together with unidentified fragments just to make one larger piece. Keeping products recognizable is more useful than creating a mystery blend. Use each bar for its labeled purpose.
A closed travel tin can contain a bar during a journey, but it may not let it dry. Open the container at your destination and let the bar and case dry appropriately. Packing a wet bar permanently into a sealed box turns a temporary transport solution into poor everyday storage.
Consider the size of the holder as the bar becomes smaller. A wide gap that worked for a new bar may let a thin remainder fall through. A simple insert suitable for the material may help, or you may prefer a different holder.
Good bar storage is deliberately unremarkable: a stable place, drainage and straightforward cleaning. Once those are in place, the bar is easier to handle and the sink stays less messy without adding another bottle to the room.
